Take a pause A one-minute breathing space for moments when everything feels like too much.

Slow, steady breathing can help some people feel a little more grounded. It is not a treatment and it does not replace support, but it can be a useful pause.

If this makes you feel worse, stop and breathe normally. This is not an emergency service. If you are at immediate risk, contact local emergency services.

How to use the pause

  1. Settle where you are

Sit or stand in a way that feels steady. You can keep your eyes open.

  2. Let the circle lead

Breathe in as the circle grows for four seconds, and out as it settles for six. There is no need to hold your breath.

  3. Notice, without judging

When the timer ends, notice how you feel. It does not need to be different for the pause to count.

If difficult feelings keep coming back

A pause can help in the moment. If anxiety, stress or overwhelm keep returning, it may help to talk it through.
